A rare to find Roman bronze votive figure of the god Mercury.
This item which dates to the 2nd century AD, has both it lower legs and arms missing as can be seen..
This is not damages caused by nearly two thousand years in the ground or by accident.
The arms and legs are missing because the original owner removed them.
In effect this was left as an offering to the God Mercury due to pain or illness in both the arms and legs , Possibly arthritis? With incredible pain...The owner was asking the God for intervention and relief for their suffering... This represents a direct contact between the roman citizen and the God that they worshipped ..
Suffolk 2014 excavations.
Size 6.3 CM in Length.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a display box together with a certificate of authenticity.
