Description
A truly stunning large Stuart period, carved oak polychromed figure of a saint.
This item which dates to circa 1660 -1680 AD, is in wonderful allover condition.
With much original polychroming still remaining and with some floral detail to the gown this piece would grace any collection.
As expected one of the carved pegged hands is missing as was quite common practice in the 17th century , as people viewed it as having a connection with that saint who would bring them luck and good fortune.
A rare and very desirable item seldom offered for sale..
Possibly English or Italian...
With display stand as shown.
Size actual 46.5 CM plus display stand.
Ex. Private Nottinghamshire collection.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
