A Vintage Moorcroft shallow bowl in the Columbine design by Walter Moorcroft.
The diameter of the bowl is 183mm (7.20inch) and the height 33mm 1.29inch.
Columbine was Walter Moorcroft's first independent design, drawn in 1947. Small numbers were produced until the early 1980's when he then designed a full range, initially on blue grounds but other colours followed.
With some Moorcroft items it can be difficult to assess age as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
However the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND marks on the base of this item suggests it was made from 1986 but also as a there is no year cypher present the latest possible date should be 1989.
From the detail above it would be reasonable to assess the date of manufacture as c1986 to 1989 and therefore of genuine vintage age.
Condition:
Vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored. Any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description and high quality images are provided.
The bowl has been closely inspected and the only issues considered worthy of mention are a few irregularities noticed in the glaze and a tiny over glazed fleabite on the rim edge. It is likely these issues will not be viewable from the images so are mentioned separately for accuracy of description.
