Silver sugar caster.
The sugar caster is hallmarked. All marks are lightly rubbed but still readable.
The marks on the body identify the piece as having been assayed in Birmingham 1940. The maker's mark is that of Adie Brothers.
The top carries a partial set of matching hallmarks - the lion rampant for sterling silver and the date letter "Q" for 1940.
The Adie Brothers worked out of Frederick Street, Birmingham.
The caster measures 7 cm (2.75") at its widest by 19 cm (7.5") tall. It weighs 179g.
All measurements are approximate.
The caster is in very good condition. The top is a very tight fit to the bottom part. There is no splits or repairs. There is the merest hint of a shallow depression to each of two of the top panels piercings.
