A beautifully embossed with high relief decoration solid silver claret jug / wine ewer and what appears to be a military inscription. Silver gilt interior with bird and flower finial.
The inscription reads " HIT OR MISS CLUB BELFAST, WON BY CAPT. W J CLARKE AUGUST 2ND 1866. NON EGET JACULIS"
Hallmarked to the main body by Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall (Martin, Hall & Co Ltd), for Sheffield 1865.
The interior of the lid is also hallmarked by the maker and the lion passant.
This is in superb condition with no dents, dints, repairs or flaws. The workmanship of the silversmith is outstanding.
