Description
A very Scarce British Pattern 1831 General Officer's Mameluke Hilt Sword of the Lovat Scouts (Britains first Sniper Regiment formed in 1916). This sword by Wilkinson is numbered '55886' for 1918. The white Mameluke hilt has intact grip scales with gilt brass cross-guard bearing the General's baton and sword with acanthus leaf decoration. c/w Bullion Sword knot. The slender curved single-edged blade with false edge, is etched for 95% of its length on both sides with the GVR monogram and Lovat Scouts motif. The blade has been corroded at some point and has been re-polished to a fine acceptable standard. The scabbard is of steel covered with fine brown pig skin stitched along the spine. The chase twin suspension rings and throat mount are all nickel plated. Note:- Please contact the Centre before online purchase for P&P costs.
