Antique solid silver vinaigrette, with gilt interior. The interior grill features a flower and leaf cut-out design. The original sponge is still in place under the grill.
The vinaigrette is fully hallmarked: The lid is marked with William IV head duty mark, maker "TS" and lion passant. The base under the grill is marked with the Birmingham anchor, maker "TS" and date letter "D". These marks identify the Birmingham maker Thomas Shaw and 1837.
The vinaigrette is in very good condition. There are a few minor surface dents commensurate with age and use. The interior gilt is not worn. Both the hinge to the interior grill and the outer case are in fine working condition. When closed, the lid is very slightly sprung open (less than 1mm). No splits or holes have been noted.
The vinaigrette measures approximately 2.5 cm x 1.7 cm x 1 cm (.9" x .6" x .4"). It weighs 8.8g (without sponge).
