Hand painted pink and yellow roses floral design Royal Crown Derby plate, with moulded foliate edge.
The painting is not signed.
The backstamp dates this plate to 1897. In addition to the usual Royal Crown Derby backstamp details, the marks identify the plate was made for Phillips's in Mount Street West London.
The Phillips china business was established in the early 1780s by George Phillips, and they had their premises in Oxford Street. After his death, the business was carried on by his two sons Jacob and Jonathan. Later the firm became W P and G Phillips and later still Phillips & Co. They also moved premises several times, starting in Oxford Street, then New Bond Street, Mount Street and finally Bond Street. They were in Mount Street between 1897 and 1906.
The plate is approximately 22cm in diameter (8.5").
The plate is in very good condition ... no chips, cracks or crazing. There is wear to the gilt trim. There are a few scratches to the plate surface, one of which passes through the lower painted decoration.
