Antique German silver snuff box, featuring a cast tavern scene to the lid, and a half repousse floral border to the base. The inside of the box has a gilt wash.
The box carries several marks:
"Germany" is stamped to the rear underneath the hinge. This would indicate it was made for the export market.
Underneath there is a "13" and an "n".
The "13" is the pre-1886 mark for .813 grade silver.
The "n" is for the maker Ludwig Neresheimer & Co, of Hanau.
There is no Hanau town mark.
The box is 6.7 cm (2.6") wide by 5 cm (2"), and is 1.5 cm (.6") deep. It weighs 47 grams.
All measurements are approximate.
The snuff box is in very good condition. The lid closes with a click and holds fast. There are no significant dents, and only light surface scratching can be seen to the base.
