A large vintage Moorcroft vase in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
With a height of 191mm (7.5 inches) a diameter (across the widest section of the body) of 134mm (5.2 inches) and a weight of 1kg the vase is an impressive item.
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
With this vase however the style of the MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986
To narrow this down further the original hibiscus pattern was designed by Walter Moorcroft in 1949 and then redrawn from 1960. The coral hibiscus pattern originally from 1968 was also designed by Walter Moorcroft. Once introduced designs could of course be further developed over time. Given that the design featured here is a coral hibiscus pattern it would be reasonable to assess the age of the vase as c1970's to mid 1980's. The vase is clearly of genuine vintage age.
Condition: Vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored. This vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in a very good to excellent vintage condition. There are a few minor craze lines on the base but virtually no visible crazing on the surface. On the upper foot of the vase there are three small areas showing pin head size indentions and to perhaps be over pedantic a little unevenness around them; which appear glazed over and from the time of manufacture.
The colours remain bright and on the dark green ground make for an attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery. Of course the physical size of the vase means it could also be displayed as a stand alone specimen item.
