An antique large green lustre pedestal bowl by William Moorcroft.
With a diameter of 233mm (9.1 inch) a height of 102mm (4.0 inch) and a weight of over 1kg (1.08kg) the bowl presents as an impressive item.
The impressed MOORCROFT and BURSLEM marks on the base date the vase to c1914-1916. The shape identification number on the base is also an impressed mark.
After William Moorcroft left the James Macintyre works he set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem in 1913. This bowl is therefore from the very early days of Moorcroft pottery and a genuine antique.
Condition: Antique items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how it has been stored. Small surface marks etc may be present but any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description. High quality images are provided as a matter of course and any questions will be answered as accurately as possible.
This bowl has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition with no apparent chips or cracks. To perhaps be over pedantic it was noticed that the base is around 1mm to 2mm from been completely flat, there is a small raised area (approx ½ inch) under the rim and a couple of very shallow glaze runs on the bowl surface. All largely insignificant and perhaps indicative of it antique status.
The green lustre colouring has seemingly faded in places to leave a variety of tones, including those with a mottled effect, from green to ivory and with a lilac background particularly when subjected to light. Overall an item with lovely antique colour variations.
An opportunity for a collector to add an attractive piece of antique Moorcroft pottery to a collection or introduce a different aspect to to the beautiful and colourful designs of later Moorcroft pieces.
The physical size of the bowl means it may very well be suitable to display and admire as a stand alone item, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
