A very early Medieval iron latch lifter key.
This item which dates to the 12th-13th century AD, is in excellent allover condition.
A latch lifter was the fore runner of the key as we know it today.
It was of simple form and literally go through a key hole and lift a simple latch on the inside.
It still retains its original suspension loop to the handle and is in fully conserved condition.
Ex. Thames foreshore excavations in 1972, in the Blackfriars area in London.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a display box together with a certificate of authenticity.
