Vintage Moorcroft vase in the Columbine pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
Quite a substantial item with a height of 132mm (5.19inch).
Columbine was Walter Moorcroft's first independent design, drawn in 1947. Small numbers were produced until the early 1980's when he then designed a full range, initially on blue grounds but other colours followed.
The vase is in excellent condition and the colours remain bright.
Regarding age it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made. As a there is no year cypher on the vase the latest possible date of manufacture would be c1989 however the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND marks in upper case on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986.
The vase is clearly a genuine vintage item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery. Of course, given its size it may be considered large enough to display as a separate stand alone item, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room, as well as been part of a collection.
