A vintage Moorcroft pin dish in the Finches design by Sally Tuffin.
The diameter is 118mm and the height 19mm.
The Finches design on a blue ground was introduced in 1988.
On the base are the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND backstamps along with the impressed 'Flag year cypher for 1995 showing this as the actual year of production, hence a genuine vintage piece.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over the full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
The detail contained within this design is certainly worthy of special note. There is a finch against a background of berries, fruit (understood to be pomegranate) and leaves. The eye is easily drawn into the scene where the skills of the tube liner and painter can be admired as well as the those of the designer. Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable.
This pin dish is in excellent condition.
