A Cobridge Stoneware jug (which might also be used as a decorative vase) in the Hosta pattern by Philip Gibson.
The height is 182mm (7.1”) and the weight 738g
Cobridge Stoneware was a company which owed its existence to Hugh Edwards the chairman of the famous Moorcroft pottery business, who wanted to develop a range of stoneware products.
A number of Moorcroft designers were involved in this new company and in fact the designer of the Hosta pattern on this jug, Philip Gibson, was one of those Moorcroft designers.
Cobridge Stoneware was in existence from 1998 to 2005 so a fairly short timescale meaning there would be a limited number of pieces produced.
As with the main Moorcroft company there was a collectors club with the associated magazines as well as catalogues, and these can be a useful source of information for design identification etc.
The Hosta pattern can for example be seen in the Cobridge Stoneware 2001 Giftware & Table Lamps catalogue, which also shows Philip Gibson as the designer.
The jug is in excellent condition and with a weight of almost 0.75 kg is an impressive piece which could equally be displayed as a stand alone item as well as part of a collection.
This Cobridge Stoneware jug is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in Stonegate, York please visit Cabinet 138 located on the Lower Ground Floor to view items of Moorcroft pottery from vintage pieces to more modern times.
