Vintage Moorcroft inverted rim bowl in the original Anemone pattern.
The diameter of the bowl (across the widest section) is 110mm and the height 37mm.
Moorcroft was awarded the royal warrant in 1928 and on the base of this bowl is the impressed Walter Moorcroft signature with the impressed POTTER TO HM THE QUEEN mark to the lower right of the signature, plus the impressed MOORCROFT mark. These back stamps combined with the signature allow the bowl to be dated 1945 to 1949.
Nb The Anemone pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft in 1938 then redrawn by Walter Moorcroft in 1975. Following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987 he was invited to redraw the original design which was done in 1988 and issued in 1989.
The bowl is in excellent condition structurally but might not be regarded as pristine by the standards of today e.g. there are a couple of areas of blue marks to the sides . It is however an opportunity for a collector to add an original William Moorcroft anemone design to a collection.
Available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples, plus a selection of collectibles and items of silverware.
