We have 1 in stock.
A vintage Moorcroft vase in the Anemone pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or glaze crazing. The colours remain bright and on the dark blue ground result in a highly attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
Many pieces of vintage and antique Moorcroft pottery can show significant glaze crazing, possibly due to water ingress (with vases) or storing in areas subject to temperature variation, where the glaze and base material expand and contract at different rates. This vase however has not been affected hence a collector may acquire a vintage piece and maintain it in an excellent state by appropriate use and storage.
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
As a there is no year cypher on the vase the latest possible date of manufacture would be 1989 however the large impressed MOORCROFT mark on the base along with the MADE IN ENGLAND mark in upper case suggests a date range c1950 to 1986.
To narrow this down further the Anemone pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft in 1938 and then redrawn by Walter Moorcroft in 1975. In 1988 Walter Moorcroft redrew the original design and this was then issued in 1989. By reference to the design featured here it would be reasonable to assess the age of the vase as mid 1970's to mid 1980's.
The vase is clearly of genuine vintage age.
