A vintage Moorcroft baluster shaped vase in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The vase is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
The height of the vase is 91mm and with a diameter of 81mm it has the appearance of a more substantial vase than many other examples of similar height and shape.
The colours remain bright and on the dark green ground make for an attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
As a there is no year cypher on the vase the latest possible date of manufacture would be c1989 however the large impressed MOORCROFT mark on the base along with the MADE IN ENGLAND mark in upper case suggests a date range c1950 to 1986.
To narrow this down further the original hibiscus pattern was designed by Walter Moorcroft in 1949 and then redrawn from 1960. The coral hibiscus pattern originally from 1968 was also designed by Walter Moorcroft. Once introduced, designs could of course be further developed over time. Given that the design featured here is a coral hibiscus pattern it would be reasonable to assess the age of the vase as 1970's to mid 1980's.
The vase is clearly therefore of genuine vintage age.
