A rare and interesting signed Moorcroft plate.
The 'T' on the base indicates a training piece. These training pieces were used to train tubeliners and painters and such pieces seem to come onto the market quite rarely, and give a collector an opportunity to include an item from a different view point - perhaps a collector interested in factory processes as well as the beauty of the item itself.
As with design trial items these training pieces can offer greater individuality and uniqueness.
The markings on the base of this plate show a design copyright date of 1996.
Moorcroft chose 1997 to be their centenary year i.e. 100 years from when William Moorcroft began his career with James Macintyre and the HC centenary year cypher for 1997 is also shown on the base.
Interestingly the base also carries the full J Moorcroft signature (16.11.97) which is rare on an item of this type.
The diameter of the plate is 159mm and the height 18mm.
The colours remain bright and with the bold design covering much of the surface area the result is a highly attractive and impressive piece of art pottery.
In excellent overall condition.
This Moorcroft plate is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view a selection of interesting items including additional Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
