A rare vintage Moorcroft plate in the Orange and Blossom design c1930's by William Moorcroft.
The diameter of the plate is 232mm (9.1 inch) and the weight 536g.
The impressed William Moorcroft signature along with the impressed POTTER TO HM THE QUEEN backstamp at the bottom right had side of the signature and the impressed MADE IN ENGLAND backstamp indicate a date range 1928 to 1949 for production however it would be reasonable to narrow the date range down further to the 1930's.
The 1930's was a time when Moorcroft brought in a number of simpler designs and one of the reference books recommended by Moorcroft actually shows an example of this pattern against an item dated c1935.
The plate is in excellent overall condition. The outstanding condition of the raised pattern suggests it may never have been used as tableware or if it was then only for display purposes or other light use.
This item represents a different aspect to the beautiful and colourful designs normally associated with Moorcroft, and a fairly limited period in the history of the company.
The plate provides a collector of vintage Moorcroft pottery an opportunity to add interest and variety to a collection. At over 9 inch diameter and with a weight in excess of half a kilo it may well be suitable to display as a stand alone item, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
This plate in the Orange and Blossom design is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view a selection of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
Please Note: This item is offered for sale for purposes of display, collecting etc and my not be suitable for use with foodstuff.
