A large (185mm dia) vintage Moorcroft bowl in the Orchid design by William Moorcroft.

A delicate floral design on a dark blue ground makes for a highly attractive piece of art pottery from one of the most famous companies in the field.

The base has the W Moorcroft impressed signature, the POTTER TO HM THE QUEEN impressed mark to the bottom right hand side of the signature and the MADE IN ENGLAND impressed mark, which is faint but present. These base markings allow the bowl to be dated to circa 1928-1949.

The bowl has no chips or cracks and only some minor glaze crazing which is restricted to the mid section of the base. Due to the fineness of the glaze crazing it may not be noticeable from all the base images so is mentioned here for additional reference.

Overall this bowl is in an excellent overall vintage condition.

Many pieces of vintage and antique Moorcroft pottery can show significant glaze crazing, possibly due to water ingress (with vases) or storing in areas subject to temperature variation, where the glaze and base material expand and contract at different rates. This bowl however allows a serious collector of vintage Moorcroft pottery to acquire an item, which has not been significantly affected, and to maintain it in an almost pristine state.

This bowl is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre please visit
