A large vintage Moorcroft plate in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The diameter of the plate is 255mm and the height approximately 23mm.
The original hibiscus pattern was designed by Walter Moorcroft in 1949 and then redrawn from 1960. The coral hibiscus pattern originally from 1968, as featured on this plate, was also designed by Walter Moorcroft.
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
However the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND marks on the base of this plate suggests it was made from 1986 but also as a there is no year cypher present the latest possible date should be 1989.
From the detail above it would be reasonable to assess the date of manufacture as c1986 to 1989.
The plate is clearly therefore of genuine vintage age.
An impressive item in excellent overall condition with no chips or cracks. The colours remain bright and on the dark green ground make for an attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery. The plate could be particularly attractive as a focal point, perhaps on a reception room table etc.
