A Japanese Aikuchi (A dagger without a guard.) Some times called a Kusungobu. Overall length is almost 18 inches. The scabbard has a very nice finish but is a little worn. There is no kodzuka. The 10 inch blade which is almost certainly mid 16th century ( Koto.) Is very tired. One too many polishes and i would think that the last polish done was not very well executed and did not help at all. However, for the collector who cannot afford the extortionate prices of a Koto dagger in good polish this one is a fair example of a weapon from the feudal period of Japan. The tang has been shortened or broken off a very long time ago.
