A very interesting original world war two ARP gas rattle. This item which is dated 1939 and made by W.Clements & Sons carries their makers mark.
In December 1937 the British government passed an act requiring all local authorities to ready themselves in case of attack. This rattle would have been used to give warning of a gas attack or used for a gas mask drill by air raid precaution personnel.
This item after the war was used by a football fan and painted in the colours of Sheffield Wednesday and used on match day. A wonderful piece of social history.
Excellent patina and colour.
As with all of my antiques this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity. Period style: 1930’s Dimension: 23.5 / 26.5 CM. Item location: In the Centre
