A private purchase Georgian 1796 pattern officers sword. The thirty two inch blade has some grey patches and is very lightly pitted overall. A cartouche with a London address can just be made out if one looks close and gets the light right. The scabbard is fine with all fittings intact but a lot of the original gilt has worn off. The ivory hilt has some small cracks and some excellent contemporary repairs under the lions head. The langets have the face of perhaps the green man. This pattern of sword was used extensively throughout the Napoleonic wars. This pattern of sword rarely comes onto the market with its correct scabbard in good condition.
