A Mandau 'Headhunters' sword from the Dyak tribe of Borneo. The sword is of an extremely unusual but of typical form from this Region. The blade is single edged, widening towards the point to give greater force to a blow. The blade is also inlaid with brass scroll work on one side. The hilt is of bone/antler with hair finials to the 'tee' shape. The scabbard is of wood bound with rattan and carved with a figure and decoration to the front. To the rear is an attached skinning knife in sheath known as a pisau-raut, with a wooden grip carved in the form of a figure.
