An absolutely stunning example of a roman horse and rider bronze cloak brooch.
This item which dates to circa 2nd century AD, is in excellent allover condition.
It shows a roman rider sitting astride a horse in a standing position. There has been much written about this type of brooch, in so much as that they were worn by mounted messengers who carried important documents between military units , not unlike the pony express in the old west, which is entirely possible...
The original fastening pin is still present ,although bent ,which is an indication as to how it may have been lost.
Ex. North Yorkshire collection mid 1970s.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a display box together with a certificate of authenticity.
