Vintage Moorcroft pin dish in the Clematis pattern.
The diameter is 117mm and the height 16mm.
The clematis pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft c1939 and initially only used on a few pieces. The pattern was developed into a full range by Walter Moorcroft from 1946 to 1975. Except for special orders production of the pattern ceased in 1983.
With some Moorcroft items it can be difficult to assess age as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
However the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND marks on the base of this pin dish suggests it was made from 1986 but also as a there is no year cypher present the latest possible date should be 1989.
From the detail above it would be reasonable to assess the date of manufacture as 1986 to 1989 and therefore of a genuine vintage age.
The clematis design on a dark blue ground makes for a very attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
