A British Constabulary (Police Officers') Sword / Cutlass dating from circa 1850. The sword has a broad curved single-edged blade with a false edge and spear point. There is a broad fuller on each side, engraved in one fuller is 'NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY CONSTABULARY'. (It is understood that this sword was original retained in Morpeth Police Station). The hilt has a single brass knucklebow and downturned quillon and with a shagreen (fish skin) covered ribbed wooden grip. A press button retaining catch locks the sword into the black leather scabbard which has brass locket and chape.
