The first English Silver Crown piece was minted in 1551.
400 years later this Five Shillings Silver Crown was minted to commemorate the 1951 Festival of Britain Exhibition. The coin has the dates 1851-1951 in Roman numerals and a Latin inscription meaning 'By the industry of its people the State flourishes'
This is fitting as the objective of the Festival was to celebrate the best of British industry, arts and science after WWII.
It comes in it's original box with the leaflet that was produced at the time.
The coin is in good condition. There are a few scuffs on the outside of the box but given that it is 70 year's old the condition is good.
A great piece of British history to own.
