A Japanese Samurai Shinto Wakazashi, early Edo period c1650. The blade in part polish is of 'Shoba-Zukuri' form with a 'Suguha-Hotsure' Hamon. The Nakago is unsigned with two 'mekugi-ana'. The Habaki is covered with gold foil decorated in a floral design. The Tsuba is of shakudo and is plain, a bronze Sepa of castelated form each side. The Tsuka is wrapped with very rare 'Whale-Baleen' Ito over shark skin. The shakudo Menuki are in the form of Shi-Shi. The Fuchi and Kashira are of iron decorated with raised flora and insects. the Kodzuka also has a floral design. The black lacquered Says is ribbed for its entire length.
