A British 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officers' Sword in rare steel field service scabbard. The sword has a straight double edged plain steel blade with a spear point and with a short single fuller on each side. The hilt is of gilt brass and retains virtually all of the gilt finish, it has a single knucklebow and quillons, with double shell fixed guards. The grip is bound with German silver wire. The scabbard is of steel with two suspension rings and a double throat mount. This is a rare sword in complete and superb condition.
