A very fine quality and incredibly rare anglo saxon period iron horse stirrup with silver decoration to the front face
This item which dates to circa 9th- to the early 11th century AD, is complete with its rare openwork bronze stirrup mount showing the head of a mythical creature.
This mount would have been attached to the leather strap which the stirrup hung on and would have been fixed in this position.
This particular item would have belonged to a wealthy warrior or person of high standing .
Size 16.5 CM in Length including mount.
Ex.North Yorkshire Private find /collection formed in the 1970s.
