A very rare and seldom encountered tudor period boxwood figure of a saint.
This item which dates to circa 16th century AD, is in totally original condition.
It still retains a fare proportion of its original paint pigment as can be seen.
Of excellent proportions and style this piece would grace any collection.
Old period repair / restoration to the neck as shown and the right pegged hand missing in antiquity. This was often the case as pilgrims often used to take them from the churches as relics, as they believed it would convey a blessing from the saint upon them..This item is all very stable and these loses are part of its long history.
Mounted on a display stand as shown which comes with this piece..
Ex.Private collection from the 1970s.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
